Thank you for your interest in working with our district as a “Guest” Substitute Teacher.  We are seeking positive, hard-working, professional, creative, problem-solving individuals who truly care about students and know how to provide meaningful and engaging educational experiences.

School districts value good substitute teachers because they preserve classroom continuity so that learning continues uninterrupted. It is possible for a substitute teacher to make a difference in a young person's life, even in a day.  It is a way to impart the special skills you have obtained through advanced degrees or years of business experience. New teachers, meanwhile, bring a fresh perspective to the classroom. Seeing students be inspired by what you bring to the classroom can be an amazing benefit to all.

The Guadalupe Union School District believes in appropriately compensating Guest Teachers for excellent work.  Thus, the daily rate is $160. Guest Teachers assigned to a long-term assignment, creating lesson plans, and grading work will be compensated for subbing the first (10) ten consecutive days at a daily rate of $190.00 and on the 11th consecutive day until the end of the long-term assignment, the daily rate is $210.00. Substitute teaching can be an ideal way to supplement your income while setting your schedule.

To work for GUSD, a Guest Teacher at a minimum must possess a 30-Day Substitute Permit, complete the Live Scan fingerprinting process, pass a paper screening process, and be interviewed by the superintendent or his designee.

All candidates must complete the online application process through https://www.edjoin.org/.
If you are not a registered user of EdJoin, you will need to log in and set yourself with your username and password to access job postings.
In order for you application to be considered complete, it is the candidate's responsibility to make sure all requested documents are submitted with the application or sent separately via e-mail or regular mail.

1.  Basic Skills Requirement:  photocopy of a one-page score report verifying passage of all sections of the CBEST exam.  CBEST information is available at www.ctcexams.nesinc.com .

Note that CBEST is the most common means of meeting this requirement; however, a number of other options are available.  For a complete listing of all approved options, please refer to http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl667.pdf .

If you are using the CSET exams for Multiple Subjects plus the Writing Skills exam to meet this requirement, including a one-page photocopy for each exam only.

For all other options, a full and complete copy of all pages of the exam score report is required by CTC.

2  Degree:  original/official university transcripts verifying conferral of a bachelor (or higher) degree from a regionally-accredited college/university.  Include these with your application packet.  The transcripts may be open but must be original.

In lieu of transcripts, you may use an original, official letter from your university registrar’s office which verifies the conferral of a bachelor or higher degree.

Or, your original diploma may be verified by the District Office.

If you are using eScripts, have those emailed directly to Anita Flores to be included with your application packet.

3.  Application:  credential application form 41-4, available at http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/414.pdf , leave Sections 2, 3, and 7 blank.

4.  Fingerprinting: a copy of completed livescan fingerprinting form 41-LS indicating that fingerprint submission has been made and that clearance fee has been paid at the livescan site.  The form is available at http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/41-LS.pdf  and a listing of nearby livescan sites is attached.  This livescan is only for the use of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  It is not a clearance for employment.

This fingerprinting is a one-time requirement for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and no other fingerprinting may be substituted.  However, if you currently hold another valid credential document from CTC, including a Certificate of Clearance (COC), then you are considered to have met this requirement.

5.  Temporary Permit:  your permit will generally be processed quickly once your online application fee is paid.  However, you may complete Section 1 and sign Section 2 of the attached Application for Temporary County Certificate form, so a temporary permit may be issued while your online application is being processed by CTC (once your online application fee is paid.)

NOTE:  Once your paperwork is received, your application will be submitted online and must include a valid email address.  You will receive an email requesting payment of the $102.50 application fee using a VISA or Mastercard.  When you receive the request, pay promptly to expedite processing - unpaid applications are voided.
